Every year, the challenge returns for six weeks, running from March 30 to May 10, 2017.
There are three goals to keep in mind and practise so they become part of your daily life after the six-week challenge.
Why is the Health Challenge worthwhile?
It encourages Quebecers to improve their lifestyle habits. By working together, we can make change happen!
We know that obesity and related metabolic diseases are becoming increasingly common. We must encourage and promote healthy lifestyles.
What does a healthy lifestyle mean?
- Recognizing that everyone is different
- Respecting your limits while motivating yourself to take action
- Listening to your overall needs
- Eating a more balanced and varied diet
- Eating home-cooked meals more often
- Staying well hydrated—with water!
- Being active more often, for 30 to 60 minutes a day
- Sleeping well, for about eight hours a night, or making up for a lack of sleep with naps
- Managing stress effectively
- Maintaining a healthy balance among work, family and social life
This year’s three goals:
- Eat at least five servings of fruit or vegetables a day. * Tip: One serving equals one fruit or 125 mL of chopped fruit or vegetables, approximately half the size of your fist.
- Be active for at least 30 minutes a day, or 60 minutes for children. * Tip: Take the stairs instead of the elevator at the office, walk to get your mail, play outside with your children or take your dog for a walk.
- Sleep better by getting enough high-quality sleep. * Tip: When you are tired, do not fight sleep; allow yourself to go to bed or take a nap. During the day, a 20-minute nap can be very effective in improving performance and concentration if you need it. If you have trouble falling asleep, try breathing exercises and let go of your thoughts. Be HERE, now.
This article covers the challenge because the physical and mental health of Quebec residents matters to us.
Beyond that, the Urbanova project offers many opportunities to be more active and eat better. Everything is nearby, and you can walk where you need to go. Urbanova is an ideal opportunity to enjoy a Montreal lifestyle on the North Shore.
Terrebonne encourages you to adopt this healthier lifestyle.
